Take the Blue Pill

Wait a minute … was a really pulling up to an IBM office?  Hold on!  I’m just a redneck kid from a small town, with no work experience and I’m interviewing at IBM?

I wandered inside not knowing what to expect.  I’m sure if I wandered into the building today I’d probably see just an ordinary office building lobby.  But to 1999 me it look liked like the wizards castle and I was Dorothy standing on the yellow brick road.

Security escorted me to an interview room and the interviewer was already seated.  All in all I think the interview lasted about 20 minutes.  I really don’t remember all that much about it.  I was still pretty much shell-shocked.  Then all of  a sudden I heard

“I think you’ll be good fit… Can you start Monday?”

“Start what?” I croaked.

“Didn’t anyone tell you what you’d be doing?” He asked.

“Not really”

Well my fantasy of wearing a blue suit or a grey suit to work everyday;  cobbling together some earth shattering technological breakthrough that would make me a household name … were not to be.
