What is the most valuable thing you have?

“Is it money is it fame … were they always this lame” -Live

Money is a wonderful thing.  Can it bring you happiness?  Yes it can.  I can be honest.  I’ve literally had nothing of my own.  At one stage of my life I had $5 that had to last me a month.  I had no food in the cupboards.  On one occasion a person that was doing a food drive in the building I lived in… left the food at my door.  I ate good for a while!

I am not wealthy now by any stretch but my working life has at least made me comfortable and I have food in cupboard and gas in the car.  Does that make me happy?  Yes of course it does.  It came at a cost though.

It cost me the most valuable thing that I have.  Energy.

Energy I have learned is my most important commodity.  It takes me a great deal of time to make it and it gets depleted so quickly.  From the moment my feet hit the ground in the morning to the moment my eyes close at night I’m burning it.  Boy is it costly to fill that tank back up.

My current medical condition means that I’m in constant pain now.  It’s a guest that never leaves.  In the morning I have the energy to mange.  As the day wears on the weight gets heavier and heavier.  The energy cost rises and rises.

Passion is the quickest way to refill that tank.  If you are doing something you feel passionate about then the energy you can devote to that task is incredible and seemingly endless.

I know I used to have them… I used to read and write.  I used to spend weekends tearing things apart just to learn.

Where did they go?  I think it leads back to being “Institutionalized.”  I’m committing more and more energy to just “go through the motions” in my working life.  It’s taken up so much of what I used to love.

I’m still scared to leap without looking but I’m starting to think it might be the only thing I can do.  Even if it means that I’m not comfortable for a while.  Maybe the uncertainty can light the fire in my belly again.

How do you rediscover what your passions are when you really haven’t felt passionate about anything in such a long time?

Let’s get started…
